The Magic And Mystery Of The Luna

At about 2 a.m. last night something caught my attention...I looked up and I saw the moon playing hide and go seek within the clouds. It was absolutely beautiful...it lit up the clouds with different colors as the clouds moved in front of it. The moon was so deep and it gave me a sense of serenity as I looked up at the night sky. Great experience and would like to share it with you.  :) Have a wonderful day.

The Power Of Flow Part 1

First Off, I hope everyone is doing well, training hard, and staying positive.

THREE WORDS...POWER OF FLOW! I am fascinated with this concept and want to share some inspiring ideas with you. What does flow really mean? Flow is defined as the natural, effortless unfolding of our lives in a way that moves us toward wholeness and harmony.  So many people in the media, teachers, therapists, trainers have always conveyed the concept of...allowing yourself to flow...in order to live, to experience, to be happy, etc. One person in particular that touched and embraced this concept until the end of his life was that of Bruce Lee. He believed in constant flow...to not control a movement or an action, but to allow it to flow naturally. To relax mentally, to allow things to evolve naturally....which would bring great purpose to your life. He continues to inspire so many people with his philosophies....AMAZING! One phrase that sticks out in my mind is what he always instructed his students to do.... "get over the consciousness of themselves."

Bruce Lee believed that you should experiences things for what they are and to not analyze them on how to make the experience better. To learn from each experience as a life lesson...to flow with the experience.
To never be in frontal opposition to any problem, but swing with it. In more detail, he describes his thought process with the concept of WATER. That's right...Water! He observed that water was so malleable that is was impossible to grasp a handful of it and that when he struck it with his fist, it was impossible to hurt. Water is both pure Yin, remained one of the softest, most yielding substances in the world and pure Yang, also capable of penetrating the hardest forms of matter. Calm like a still surface of a pond or turbulent and violent like Niagara Falls.

To be like water, then, is to adapt itself instantly to any obstacle in its path and, by moving at its own pace, begin a natural process of surmounting it. The lesson to be learned here is that if we can learn to flow with adversity, WE WILL EVENTUALLY OVERCOME IT! And it is only through OUR FLOWING WITH LIFE that we are able to adapt and grow. LIFE IS MOVEMENT....and if we cease to flow with it, it passes us by. One of my favorite quotes from Bruce Lee is: "Running water never grows stale. So you've got to just 'keep flowing.'"
Simply let life--with all of its experiences-FLOW THROUGH YOU!

When you allow things to flow in your life, occurrences line up, events fall into place, and obstacles melt away....IT BECOMES YOUR POWER OF FLOW. Flow is DYNAMIC and can make us feel alive. Most of us have experienced the beauty and the power of flow...you are in the right place at the right time and doing the right thing. You feel at peace and connected to something larger and greater than ourselves.

When you learn to make flow a way of life...your world becomes filled with synchronicity- meaningful coincidences in which outside events, seemingly disconnected in time and space, link up with our internal states and connect us with the greater whole. What an amazing process to be in tune and open to all  experiences, dreams, and embracing signs that surround you. And by paying attention to these signs, you are able to reach new levels of comprehension about your inner life and your role in the world.

"Synchronicity is lyrical--a little sprite of a surprise, a little gift," described by Charlene Belitz.  I absolutely love this thought process. She goes on to state, "it can get so big that everything can start to talk to you; everything can suggest things.  HOW POWERFUL IS THAT!!!! Can you think of the times synchronicity has happened in your life?  For instance, you could be thinking of someone and minutes later the phone rang with that person on the other end. Here is an interesting one, the same number repeated itself to you at significant times. So you can honestly admit that you have experienced something to this affect...you have been given a taste of this.

In order for you to continuously experience the process, you must allow yourself to flow in your life. Flow responds directly to our beliefs, behaviors, and actions. You must become open, willing, trusting, and  allow yourself to experience the beauty and power of flow. And with this experience comes fulfillment and joy.

There are steps to discover, which will allow yourself to flow and embracing what life truly has to offer you. Creating changes in yourself to help your experience of flow, discovering how to be TRUE TO YOURSELF, determining your mission in life and your next step to fulfill it, treating yourself gently and compassionately, enhancing your intuition so that you make better decisions, and stretching yourself and taking risks.
Imagine yourself moving into harmony, oneness....TRUE ALIVENESS.

Live your life with purpose!!!!!  FLOW!!!!!
"Try to live freely from moment to moment letting things happen and adjusting to them." -Bruce Lee

Remember We Are Love In Motion

"We forget that if we don't show up, somebody, even one somebody, would miss what we had to offer, ask, or do that day. We do not recognize that we are love in motion, seeking to reveal itself in many ways under all circumstances." -Iyanla Vanzant

As Iyanly Vanzant reminds us, we can get so fixated on what's wrong in our lives or what we have to do to keep the daily routine going that we forget that we are all here to love. We lose sight of the fact that just the mere fact of our being in the world, no matter what our circumstances, can and does matter. Because we were standing there, our child didn't get hit by a car. Because we showed up at work, a new idea was generated that might help countless people. Because we listened, our mother's heart was soothed, if only for a few hours. Every day offers us countless opportunities to love-the homeless man in the street, the woman behind the deli counter, the friends and loved ones that grace our lives.

Please don't take this for granted. We all have the power to help and love people all around us each and every day...you have no idea the impact you could have on someone. So think of yourself as love in motion today. ;)

Acknowledge The Truth Of The Moment

I've come to believe that much of our misery comes from not being willing to acknowledge the truth of the present circumstance. We wish it weren't so; we want things to be different, so we either deny what is really going on or complain that it shouldn't be the way it is.

I have found so much peace of mind from just acknowledging the plain truth, whatever it is, no matter how hard: right now, our relationship is going through a rough patch; right now, the step kids are having a hard time adjusting to the new baby their father and I had; in this moment I feel totally lost. Depending on the circumstances, sometimes I just say it to myself; other times I share it with the other person involved. The truth of this moment is just that: THE TRUTH OF THIS MOMENT. It says nothing about the next moment, the next day, or the next year. And as the old adage says, the truth will set you free.

That's because it encourages us to get out of denial or grousing and acknowledge what is true for us right now. By naming it, we can begin to tame it. If only by recognizing that what is true now may not be true later.

What is your truth of the moment?

Commit To Loving Better

Today, and for the rest of the month, take the love pledge: "I open to more love today, more love of myself and those I meet in my day and in this month. I commit to giving without worry about receiving." Then notice what changes in your life as a consequence.

Special Messages From The Heart

Hello everyone...I hope everyone is having a good day. Here are a couple of things I want you to think about today.

1. Compliment three people everyday (starting today). And be true and mean it...just don't say the words.

2. Look people in the eye. U can tell alot about a person and their eyes. It allows you to look deep in their souls and really feel and understand them.

3. Be forgiving of yourself and others. This truly is where you can make peace with yourself. It is so important to not hold on to things that don't allow you to move forward in life. Let them go and feel free.

4. Plant a tree on your birthday. The tree you plant is your tree and it will grow with you each and every birthday.

5. NEVER GIVE UP ON ANYBODY! MIRACLES HAPPEN EVERY DAY. It is hard to change and to give up, but is is fulfilling to stand by a person's side and help them in anyway you can. Any change they make becomes their miracle and their beginning.

6.Surprise loved ones with little unexpected gifts. This has to be one of the most meaningful things you can do in life...it is truly about the little things. It means more.

7. Make the best of bad situations. We all go through hard times...you must find the positive in all the negative things. Turn the bad into something good.

8. Always accept an outstretched hand. It is okay to receive help from others. Put away your pride and allow yourself to receive a helping hand. There will come a time when you will have to help someone also.

9. Take a brisk thirty-minute walk every day. It is a great stress reliever and will allow you to regroup after a long hard day.

10. Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all they have. If someone has a dream do not talk them out of that dream, support them and encourage them that even though it may be difficult....they can do whatever they set their mind to. Always support others.

11. Take time to smell the roses. We don't allow ourselves to enjoy all the things life has to offer. Make time to do the little things...don't get caught up in the fast-pace life.

12.NEVER GIVE UP ON WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO DO. THE PERSON WITH BIG DREAMS IS MORE POWERFUL THAN ONE WITH ALL THE FACTS. It all starts from you...do all the things that are in your HEART. Don't sell yourself short...you only get one chance. LIVE OUT ALL YOUR DREAMS.

13. BECOME THE MOST POSITIVE AND ENTHUSIASTIC PERSON YOU KNOW. It is amazing what positivity does for people. When your positive, everyone around you feels that energy and become positive too. Be an example for others.

14. COMMIT YOURSELF TO CONSTANT SELF-IMPROVEMENT. By making a commitment to yourself you are allowing yourself to see life with all its wonderful possibilities.

15. Be a good loser and be a good winner. Learn from your mistakes and improve on being better. When we lose or fail at something...we tend to work hard to become successful in our lives. Don't think of losing as a bad thing...it just helps you to work harder to become a winner.

Inspiration and Motivation

Where do you look for inspiration? What keeps you motivated to keep working hard and consistent in all your workouts or in your daily life? You must find ways to be inspired and motivated to continue on your path. It can be very difficult to stay motivated due to obstacles and challenges you face each and every day....THAT IS HOW LIFE WORKS! You must believe that you have what it takes to overcome any obstacle/challenge. Look around you...there is inspiration and motivation all around you. You must be able to recognize it and apply it to your life. People come in and out of our life everyday....some stay for awhile, while others are there for a short time. You can learn so much from others...which will help you stay motivated or inspire you to overcome difficulties. You will come across people that have overcome seemingly impossible difficulties, people who follow their dreams into uncharted territory, people who rise to incredible heights of achievement and success. Inspiring people teach us how to find spiritual fulfillment, creative expression, and deep satisfaction in life. But don't sell yourself short...everyone has a story and EVERYONE has overcome something. It is a snowball effect, you get inspiration from one person and then you are an inspiration to another person. It is quite a fascinating pattern.

For several years, I have been trying to find new and different ways to keep my clients motivated/inspired. Motivation must come within, but I believe that you can help someone find their motivation by providing them with tools (knowledge, confidence, assurance). Recently, I decided to try something different and something unique. Something that could be a daily reminder for someone....something that could reassure someone they can do whatever they set their mind to. So my idea is to give some sort of motivation/inspiration on a different level...inspirational/motivational frames, each different and each with meaning. Making sure that each one touches on different aspects of a person through spiritual, emotional, and physical ways. As I began to work on this project, I discovered all the possibilities right in front of me...all of which would help people to stay motivated and inspired to do good in life. Below, I have included some of my general frames and one customized piece. A customized piece is different because the client will give me the colors they want included. I will then customize this piece by what I see for them, what I think they are capable of (how I see them through my eyes/their full potential), and help them think about what they want to accomplish and how they can accomplish anything. If you are interested in a general frame or a customized frame, please contact me through this blog entry. I would love to give you a piece of inspiration.

Different Month From The Rest

Welcome to a new month...a month filled with lots of adventure, new concepts, new information, and something totally different. I have been doing a lot of thinking recently on how I can make this month different. I have enjoyed sharing my passion with you and my love of training and fitness on so many levels, but one thing I haven't done is share my personal experiences with you on all levels. The experiences that I have faced. Experiences that have been hard, great, difficult, tremendous...the good and the bad.

And so I have decided to take you on a journey through my experiences, which have definitely shaped me into the person that I am today. Please bare in mind that even though I am going to share my experiences with you, you will still get what this blog is intended for (health, fitness, & life). My hopes from all of this is to give YOU a deeper view and understanding of fitness and life.

I am so excited to share what truly has lived inside of me all my life. And I know in my heart that we all have it, a gift filled with determination, drive, commitment, perseverance, love, purpose, joy...HEART! And if you don't know what is inside you, it waits to be discovered. It is patient and it doesn't give up on you. Most importantly, it believes that you will embrace it. It is up to YOU to make it happen and that is one thing I have learned in my 34 years on earth.

So here we go...follow me to the beginning!

Push Yourself To The Next Level

"When you think about it, what other choice is there but to hope? We have two options, medically and emotionally: GIVE UP OR FIGHT LIKE HELL."
-Lance Armstrong

Never give up in what you believe in. Keep your mind and your emotions (YOUR PASSION) in alignment behind your hopes, your dreams, your destiny. Once everything is aligned then it is time for action. DO IT! FIGHT!

"Play hard and win big. The more you train, the more you gain."
-David Beckham

I love this quote. When you train with intensity and determination...you become a winner overall. Not just in the gym but in LIFE! Don't forget that in order to win you must WORK- mental, emotional, and physical. Most importantly, understand that YOUR WORK never ends. And that is the BEAUTY OF IT ALL...you will appreciate and embrace your VICTORY overall.

"I've never been afraid to fail."
-Michael Jordan

I believe it was through Jordan's persistence and determination that helped him to be so successful. In the ninth grade, Jordan was cut from the basketball team and he experienced a sense of failure in his early years. I believe that his experience of failure was a blessing in disguise for Jordan...it made him stronger and determined to make the team the next year. He worked so hard and never gave up on his dream and ended making the team the next year and the rest is history. I think that he knew if he failed at one point during his basketball career he would win in the end because of his perseverance. Never be afraid to fail...we all have failed at one point or another, it is what you do after you fail that is the most important. Don't ever give up!

You are beaten to earth?
Well, well, what's that?
Come up with a smiling face,
It's nothing against you to fall down flat
But to lie there- that's disgrace!
-Edmund Cooke on persistence

The Athlete In You

"Never let the odds keep you from doing what you know in your heart you were meant to do."
 -H. Jackson Brown Jr.

ALWAYS KNOW THAT YOU HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO DO SO MUCH.  FOLLOW YOUR HEART.  THERE WILL BE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT WILL TRY AND STOP YOU FROM BEING THE BEST YOU CAN BE ONLY BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE THE DESIRE AND THE DETERMINATION TO SUCCEED THAT YOU DO.  YOU MUST NEVER STOP BELIEVING IN YOUR POTENTIAL.  IT IS IN ALL OF US, YOU MUST FIND IT WITHIN YOURSELF AND KEEP STRIVING. I BELIEVE THAT WE ALL WERE MEANT TO DO SOMETHING AND IT IS ONLY UP TO YOU TO FIND IT!  YOU CAN NOT DEPEND ON ANYBODY BUT YOURSELF.  YOU WILL HAVE PEOPLE THAT WILL SUPPORT YOU AND HELP YOU ALONG THE WAY, BUT IN THE END IT MUST COME FROM YOU AND ONLY YOU.  SO FIND, EMBRACE IT, AND SHOW WHAT YOU WERE MEANT TO BE AND DO!  I BELIEVE IN ALL OF YOU!

I want to set the record straight... most people know that my training style has always been based on HIGH INTENSITY and MINIMAL/NO REST type training.   But it is important for everyone to have a clear understanding of my training style and why I believe this training style will help anybody achieve whatever they want to accomplish.  I would define my training style as one  based on intensity and being well-rounded. I train my clients the way I train myself.  I want to develop athletes in all my clients and through this development I want them to be STRONG and CAPABLE.  I emphasize on functional strength, power, muscle endurance, anaerobic capacity, core strength, etc.  I do not consider my training style a BODYBUILDING TYPE TRAINING STYLE.  I like to think outside the box and all my training is based on INTENSITY.  I like to incorporate the aspects of speed, agility, and endurance in my training regimen.  I believe that a person can get a strong BODY with minimal to/no rest time between sets/exercises.  So the goal of my training is for my clients to be in the BEST OVERALL SHAPE... to have the strength and the endurance to go the distance.  TO BE VERSATILE AND TO BE ATHLETES AT ALL TIMES.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY:  Try to set weekly challenges for yourself.  They are short, sweet, and it helps you hold yourself accountable.  I have one clients who is trying to eat 6 servings of fruits/vegetables per day.  Today, our society is lacking in many vitamins and minerals in their daily intake.  I think it is important for people to have 5 to 9 servings of fruits/veggies.  Have more fruits in the morning and veggies in the early afternoon and evening.  GO FOR IT! I guarantee you will feel better and your body will appreciate it and function for you in the weight room.

DEFINITION OF EXERCISES/LANGUAGE IN EXERCISE

1) Straight-legged to Heels-to-Butt Sit-ups- lie flat on the ground with your legs straight and your hands on your head. As you start to do a sit-up bring your heels in to your butt and tap the floor (*the closer the heels come to the butt the harder). As you come out of your sit-up and begin to roll-down straighten out your legs and make sure the heels touch the floor. It should be a smooth, contolled one motion.
2) Burpee In Place-start by jumping straight in the air and then landing in a squat position with hands on the ground. Kick your feet back into the downward position of a push-up. Thrust the feet up and push up with the arms simultaneously.
3) Traveling Forward Burpee- the same concept as the Burpee In Place the only difference is jump forward instead of straight up.
4) Traveling Backward Burpee- the same concept as the Burpee In Place the only difference is jump backward instead of jumping straight up.
5) Burp- also known as a stripped down burpee. Start low and tucked toward the floor. Kick feet out to the bottom portion of a pushup. Then, push with your hands, while thrusting the feet back to the beginnning position (which is low and tucked toward the floor). It is only a half way motion minus without the jump in the air.
6) M.B. or Plate Stand-Ups- lie flat on the ground with your feet planted on the ground. Beginners should use two dumbbells and place on feet. Hold a m.b. or plate over your head (*the heavier the db/plate the easier...the lighter the db/plate or no weight the harder). Quickly move your arms forward and start to sit up. It is very important that you use your arms for momentum and engage your abdominals. Once your arms pass your knees, quickly push forward with your legs, moving into a standing position.
7) Mountain Climbers- start with your body in a push-up plank position. With the hands stationary, alternate the feet back and forth. One leg should be tucked with the knee coming close to your chest and the opposite leg extended. Make sure to place your weight on the balls of the feet.
8) Grasshoppers- your body will begin in the same position you used for mountain climbers. The movement starts by bringing your left foot underneath the body until it touches your right hand. After touching your hand, return the left foot to the starting position and repeat the movement by bringing your right foot across the body to your left hand. You will be on the balls of your feet but when you bring your foot toward your hand you will land on the side of your foot.
9) Wall Sit- place yourself up against a wall and squat down until the thighs are parallel to the floor. Think about forming an L with the bottom portion of your body. Your back is supported against the wall. Hold this position for time. Do not place your hands on your thighs because this takes off the pressure in your legs. Absolutely no movement with this exercise.
10) Bridge- a great exercise that will develop strength and flexibility. It is a static hold that helps improve lower back strength. Start by lying down on the floor with your knees bent and your hands on the floor close to your ears. Lift yourself up with your abdomen pointing upward and with only the hands and the feet on the floor. Your body should create an arched position and you will maintain the upright position for time.
11) Aerobic exercise- means with oxygen. An activity in which demands of muscle for oxygen are met by circulation of oxygen in blood. Distance running, cross-country, skiing, distance cycling are all examples of aerobic activities.
12) Anaerobic Exercise- means without oxygen. Activity in which oxygen demands of muscles are so high that they rely upon an internal metabolic process for oxygen. Short burts of "all-out" activities such as sprinting or weightlifting are examples of anerobic exercises.
13) Burn- also known as "going for the burn." For instance, in endurance exercise, working muscles until lactic acid buildup causes a burning sensation.
14) Concentric- when muscles contract or shorten.
15) Delts- an abbreviation for deltoids, the large triangular muscles of the shoulder which raise the arm away from the body and perform other functions.
16) Eccentric- when muscles lengthen while maintaining tension.
17) Fast-Twitch- refers to muscle cells that fire quickly and are utilized in anaerobic activites like sprinting and powerlifting.
18) Glycogen- can be referred to as a full tank full of stored carbohydrates. Some of it is stored in the liver and some of it is stored in the muscles themselves.
19) Hybrid Lift- is two or more exercise done in one single movement. It is the inverse of a combo lift. For istance, performing a bicep curl while lunging.
20) Interval Training- is a short, high-intensity cardio exercise alternated with longer periods of lower-intensity cardio. It allows you to burn more calories, increase your speed, improve your power, and much more. It is more effective at burning fat while maintaining muscle mass. Combine this type of training with intensity will also increase your metabolic rate to amazing levels. This is because the work you do utilizes a greater percent of the body's muscles.

Borysenko, J. Saying Yes to Change. Pg. 173.
