Two Possible Culprits

If you find yourself suffering from a great deal of anxiety for no apparent reason, it might be caused by what you're eating. The main culprit could be caffeine. According to research at the National Institute of Mental Health, drinking four cups of coffee can elevate your stress hormones and blood pressure by as much as 32 percent. They claim that women with full-blown anxiety have cured themselves without drugs simply by eliminating caffeine. If you want to try this, don't forget that caffeine is present not only in coffee but in tea, many kinds of sodas, and chocolate.

The other culprit is sugar. For some people, sugary foods can cause extreme blood sugar fluctuations, which cause the adrenal glands to produce stress hormones. Instead of a donut, a cookie, or a piece of cake for a snack, reach for fruit, vegetables, or whole grain crackers. A side benefit is that this will help you lose weight and it will up your intake of Vitamins B and C, both known to help reduce anxiety.
